When an employee learns new skills, a few significant things happen:
– The employee with new skills can increase their job responsibilities and become more valuable to the business.
– The employee may earn a promotion or a pay increase, improving their job satisfaction and livelihood.
– And the business will save money by promoting talent from within, reducing turnover rates and the associated hiring and training costs.
New skills for existing employees is also known as Incumbent Worker Training and is one of several business solutions that SkillSource offers employers. SkillSource helps share the costs of training existing employees with qualifying businesses through an approved training partner.
Skyview Dental in Moses Lake hired Esmeralda Tercero as a dental assistant in 2022. Dr. Calvin Despain was interested in developing new skills for his staff to help his practice remain competitive. He learned about Incumbent Worker Training through a partner referral and reached out to SkillSource. Dr. Despain was impressed with Esmeralda’s exceptional dedication in her role, and knew that staff development would be a win-win for her, and for his dental practice.
Through Incumbent Worker Training with SkillSource, Esmeralda enrolled in training at Spokane Community College which she completed with flying colors! Esmeralda earned an Expanded Function Dental Auxiliary Certification and is now thriving in her expanded role, bringing even greater expertise and energy to Skyview Dental.
An investment in an employee’s skills is an investment in the business itself. We’re grateful for employers like Dr. Despain for leaning into opportunities for staff development, expanding horizons and enabling greater success for all. Congratulations to Esmeralda and Skyview Dental!
