Curiosity becomes capability

“I’ve grown up a lot through this process. I take feedback better, I take my responsibilities more seriously, and I understand what it means to be part of something bigger than just myself,” Seth Fulton, Wenatchee Computers Intern.

There’s no single path into a career in tech, but curiosity is often the starting point — the drive to ask questions, learn new systems, and figure out how things work. That curiosity is what Seth brought with him when he connected with SkillSource.

After earning his GED, Seth was looking for a way to move from interest to experience. SkillSource worked with him to build a plan that translated that curiosity into hands-on learning, connecting him with training and a Work Experience (WEX) placement at Wenatchee Computer, where learning on the job is essential to the work itself.

At Wenatchee Computer, Seth began building technical skills while learning what it means to show up in a professional work environment. Through Workforce funding available to eligible participants,

SkillSource helped cover costs for Seth’s work uniforms and materials — practical expenses that can stall momentum for people struggling financially. That support allowed Seth to stay focused on learning, skill-building, and contributing on the job.

In just a few months, Seth transitioned from a learning placement into a paid internship, stepping into an official role with a clear path forward, and room to grow as a dependable team member.

For Wenatchee Computer, the partnership created a way to grow talent while meeting real business needs.

“SkillSource’s involvement hasn’t just helped Seth grow — it’s strengthened our entire operation. The preparation, accountability, and communication they’ve built into this internship have made it a true partnership. We’re grateful for the investment they’ve made in Seth and in our shop, and we’re proud to be part of his journey into the IT field.”-  Brandon Smith, Owner, Wenatchee Computer.

Partnerships like this create pathways. As technology continues to shape how we live and work, developing this kind of talent is critical. Connecting individual curiosity with employer needs through intentional partnerships helps build a skilled, adaptable workforce — and launching people like Seth into in-demand tech careers strengthens the community as a whole.
